How do I make my hair appear thinner?

I am getting my haircut soon, and my hair is very thick. Usually, I blow-dry my hair;but doing this makes it very very poofy. Does anyone have suggesstions as to how to make my hair less poofy? (besides straightening)

I don't know if there is a way that hair stylists can 'thin' your hair when they cut it..is there?

Actually yes there is, hairstylists actually have thinner scissors. It doesnt actually cut your hair. My hair is very very thick, I usually get my hair trimmed every 3 weeks, and along with that get it thinned. Then on a daily basis I blow dry and us a leave in conditioner (bioloage), then I straighten it. It makes a world of difference! You should try it!!!!!!

if your hair is really thick either keep gel or grease in it to slick it down. but if in emergence and it has to be thin in 5 minutes(example) rub grease on it then blow dry it ive done it before it worked for me it should work for you

I have very thick hair as well. My hairstylist uses a thinning pair of scissors (you have to do this judiciously b/c hair will grow back) when she cuts my hair. I'd also suggest using a spray-on conditioner in addition to regular conditioner and even pomade. When I use a lot of conditioner, my hair appears less poofy, and thus thinner.

One more thing, get your hair layered in such a way that it takes away bulk.

When they cut it tell them that, there is scissors that are called feathering i think, something like that, ne way they cut with a razor, most of your hair is differnet lenghths, but it looks like it is board even, it is a nice textored look and it feels great i promise, ask them about it. :)

actually the thinning scissors are your best choice. they dont hurt at all and really make a difference. i have thick naturally wavy hair but wanted it straight, so my stylist cut it into layers, used the thinning scissors [also known as "feathering"] and flat ironed it. My hair looked a lot better, and it still makes a difference without the flat iron! Also ask your stylist to texturize your hair.
