Has this ever happened to your hair?

A hair stylist made a mess out of my hair, she supposedly point cut the ends, but I had another hair stylist take a look at it becuase it looks horrible. She said that the other stylist just made a mess out of it and what she did is not point cutting, she just picked up my layers and chopped into them about 3 inches or more inches into the hair with the points of the scissors. My hair has been growing for almost 8 months, but it still looks so thin and stringy,it looks kind of frayed. If you had this happen to your hair, what did you do? Should I just start having the bad stuff trimmed off? I don't think one trim will fix it. Is my hair ever going to be thick again? The ends of my layers look kind of like troll doll hair. I will appreciate any advice.

Thanks in advance

I'm so sorry! I hate...I mean....HATE bad haircuts! I had a stylist cut my hair and I had her re-do it on the spot (bad idea, by the way) she totally chopped it up! It's been about four months and a few trims later, my hair is looking thicker and stuff, but, yeah...it's just gonna have to grow out. I'm sorry! I would suggest having the ends trimmed, because if you don't have them trimmed, that thin hair will just stay there. :)

I would get 3 inches cut off all the layers. Or get 1 1/2 inches cut off then go back and get 1 1/2 inches cut off again in a couple weeks.

Yes, I recommend trimming, Also, put olive oil in your hair at night then wash it out in the morning.

Olive oil makes hair thick and strong,

Hope this helps.

ya this has happened to me... i just went and got the ends cut off and it worked fine ... i lost my long hair but it was worth it :)

Oh boy. I wouldn't go back to her!! If it were me I'd probably even it around the bottom so there aren't any layers or "point cut" areas. If your hair is thin already you should have it all one length. Layering it will just make it look thinner. If you fear having more cut off I say condition the heck out of it and flat iron the "troll qualities" out of the ends.

If it is as bad as you say, you should probably just cut out all the bad and start over. Instead of new hair growing into the old, let all new hair grow in together. That way it will all grow even and you dont have to worry about having short places and long tags of hair everywhere. I feel your pain, someone jacked me up once. Good luck!!!!

Has this ever happened to your hair?

nope this has never happened to me.

but my hair is thin anyways

but i DO believe your hair can be thick again. just give it time to grow back.

if this happened to my hair, i dont even know..

i feel sorry for you ]]:

Have your hair cut by someone who knows what they are doing. Tell them what your concerns are and what you want your hair to look like when it grows out. Take a picture if you can or go to a salon where they have the computers that show you what you will look like with a certain style and pick one that suits you.

go back to the original salon, inform them of the mistakes done to your hair, request a refund, go somewhere else that you trust, have them attempt to repair the style and wait for it to grow back

only 1 person cuts my hair...its my sister in law...as much as we don't like each other, i know that she is the only one that has ever been able to cut my hair w/o screwing it up...and she didn't get any cosmo degree just experience ;)

Wow, darlin!! You are amongst thousands (even millions) of people who've had a bad hair experience. You're not alone and yes, there is a solution. Time, however, can be your greatest ally or enemy depending on how fast you want this.

YES, a trim is definitely necessary. However, only 1/4 of an inch every 3 weeks. I'll explain a little bit. What the other stylist did WAS point cutting but it wasn't done correctly. What point cutting really is is just texturizing the ends to give it a slight choppy look. Point cutting is the points of the HAIR and not always with the POINTS OF THE SHEARS. Let me clear that up for you. If you want a specific style, it's ALWAYS a plus to bring a picture of your desired style.

Let me say this up front that we are hair stylist, not magicians. We can do a similar style but cannot always do the EXACT style. The only person that can do that is an EXPERIENCED HAIRSTYLIST. Here are some tips to finding a fabulous stylist:

1. Check to see if they are licensed cosmetologists, depending on state. Some states doesn't require a license to practice cosmetology so here's when #2 comes in.

2. REFERENCES. Word of mouth is by far the most important aspect to the fate of a hairstylist. If they like the work, they'll spread the word and keep coming back. If they don't, they'll the spread the word faster and never return. Check with other people. You may be surprised by what you hear. My preference is to choose a stylist that graduated from Pivot Point school. This is where I graduated and they make sure we don't get the license until we've mastered haircutting.

3. DON'T LEAVE THE SALON IF THE STYLIST DOES A BAD JOB. Dont' let them fix it either. Request your money back.

Now, trim only 1/4 inch every 3 weeks because your hair will grow back. It just takes time. You can do something in the meantime between cuts. INVEST in a really good shampoo and conditioner. The thicker the product, the better. Your hair will thank you in due time.

Believe it or not, olive oil does wonders for your hair. Only use a quarter size amount on damp hair. Don't ever put it on dry hair because it looks horrible. Try not to over use styling appliances daily because this also dries your hair out and can damage it badly.

I hope this helps you. If you need any further help, ask me.
