Do hair stylists usually cut more than asked?

I'm getting my hair trimmed before school starts and I want to cut as little as possible because I would like to keep my length. When you ask your hair stylist to cut one inch, does he/she usually cut two?

Unfortunalty some do. Before they start to cut make them show you what they think is an inch compared to your inch. You could also show them where you want your hair to be (like on your sholders or a place on your back) before they start. I'll be the first to admit that my inch and someone else's are two different things! Remember though if you don't get what you want, don't pay! Also make sure that they repeat what you want before they start and if you are not comfortable with that stylist, leave. If you don't trust them then don't do it.

no just say "ONE INCH AND NO MORE!" and they will get that if they cut more u will be mad!

Many times they cut a little extra 1/2-1 inch or it just appears that way after they style it.

YES whenever i get my bangs cut she always seems to do more and all my friends (who go to different places agree)

- also when your hair is wet dont forget when it drys it will become considerably shorter. so always say alittle longer.you can always take more off if you really need to

YES!! even if i show a stylist where i want it cut to, they do more. so, be realllllllly loud and obnoxious about where you want your hair cut to, show the length, and explain that you DO NOT want to lose your length, not even an inch, just a half an inch!!! say "no more than half an inch"! that is really small and will definitely help to keep your hair healthy. good luck, and once again, be oboxious and physically show them where you want your hair cut to. haha.

you need to show them exactly how long/short you want your hair. put your hand up to show them how short you want it.

yup.. they surely do.. I've experience it before i ask the stylist to cut just an inch to my surprise he cut about 4 inches... Ask the stylist first if he/she knows how to measure in inches..lolz

My usual hair stylist wasnt available the day i wanted to cut my hair soo i decided i'd get it cut by who ever was, when sat on the chair I told him again that all i wanted was a trim he said ok, he started from the back and when he got to the front i noticed my hair was right below my shoulders I FREAKED! and left with out payin because that wansnt what i asked for! never again will I cut my hair BY JUST ANY1! only get your hair done by some 1 you know and trust and has done your hair befor.

Ugh yes, well for me anyway. I hate it when they do that too, especially riiiight before school starts up. Once the lady cut off like two inches more than i wanted when i already had short hair and i had to go to school looking....well really funny. So just tell them what you want and make yourself CLEAR. maybe u could find a friend to just trim it my experience with hair stylist is tht u tell them only to cut a little but i think tht because of their training that means they , try to get all the split ends and tht usually causes u to walk out the store with 3 inches or 4 off instead of wht u wanted , my girlfriends , and my daughter trim my hair , and they no what i want ....

As being a hair stylists i can honestly say it all depends on who you go to . Some people do cut more off, . Personal I don't I always leave a quarter of an in left of what they really want off and I can gladly cay everyone I work with does the same. Make sure you know what an inch is ,I just have to stand up for my profession as a hair stylist , most people don't know what a inch is. most people like a inch is little to nothing, when in real life a inch is quit a bit more see the differnce . a inch to the common world is completly differnt in the Hair world , you need to show them what you want tell them make your point know. make sure they are on the same page , if someon take 25 min to trim your hair , you need to get out of the chair . it is also your resonsibleity to tell us what you want . do it.
